Celebrate the Small Things Post 2: Being Good to Yourself

Fridays are all about celebrating the Small Things thanks to a weekly blog hop created by author Lexa Cain. Joint co-hosts this week are authors L.G. Keltner @ Writing Off The Edge Tonja Drecker @ Kidbits Blog  The mission coincides with what I’m hoping to do with my own writing, inspire and focus on the light when those slippery shadows creep around our shoes. Ever wanted a dream so bad you worried way more than you should?

Well, today I’ve vowed to distract myself with all the good things I’ve done this week to make my dream happen and I am also celebrating a few personal ones too.

1. This week I had a girls’ night with two lovely creative friends. In the early Wednesday afternoon, I got a call, ” I have free Royals tickets from my boss. In the diamond section near home plate! Free food, too. I will even drive to pick you up.”

How do you say no to that? I am not one to quit either. The royals didn’t have the best of luck against the A’s but by golly! 8th inning came around and finally, they scored and made the board. 8 is my lucky number, my soccer number back in high school. Another fantastic thing to celebrate as well as the spectacular weather.

2. I wrote a manuscript synopsis and stayed up until 1:30 in the morning pushing around bulleted scenes and words. I love what I came up with. I hadn’t been this successful in the past consolidating scenes into two pages and which shows me, the harder we work, the more we improve.

3. Lastly, I dyed Easter eggs with my 3 loves, my two little ones and my one kind-hearted big one my kids often call “Davey bear.” There are so many wonderful options now. I loved the glitter and the tye-dye, and being an artsy fartsy girl, I love to roll my sleeves up and jump right in. Dyed an egg lately? It’s really fun.

So when you look at the good things, if you’re like me and you write them down, you might find your chest relaxing and the belly expanding with a  sigh. Be good to yourself. As John Grisham states in The Rainmaker, “Don’t compromise yourself – you’re all you have.”

And worry? Well, when you look at it like this, it seems like a good idea.

Question: What happened in your world this week? I’d love to hear it

Hugs and have an awesome weekend 🙂

  1. How great to enjoy time out with a great friend and dyeing Easter eggs with the kids! I love that quote and couldn’t agree more. You have to be your own best friend and take care of yourself. You deserve it. Have a great weekend!

  2. Love your colorful eggs and the proverb. 🙂

  3. What pretty eggs! And how fun to get the tickets too. Sounds like a great week all around.

  4. A great week for you!!! I spent some time with my brother and sister-in-law for Easter and I created some new art and gardened. So I had a good week too! Hope you had a great Easter!
