My Human Flaw

I was the girl who could find a really straight path. I’d truck right along and…wait! Flowers?

I’d glance back. Then spin around to face them; bright spring faces smiling so big my big toe would already be one inch closer. Then my foot.

Just one little sniff…

…Startled by a cool rush of air I’d look up. The sun was gone. The stars were out. And the road?

Forget finding my way back.

And forget the end goal I had in mind all along.

So what happened next?

Giving up. Forgetting the dream all because of one tiny little flaw in my personality: Indecision.

There. I said it.

It’s important to explain why a mission statement has become so important to me. When I feel the flowers call my name, I can remind myself of who I am, what I stand for and avoid that uncomfortable place where I feel like I’d let myself down.

It’s another human thing I tend to do and I’ve learned through my experiences, I don’t always deserve that. Neither do you. ;0)

You work hard. Just like me. You have dreams. Just like me. Be good to yourself. Know that at times, your dreams don’t have to be exact and right on the money every single step. Growth happens. Circumstances change. That’s just what time does to us.

So here’s my mission. It’s my anchor. I’ve used it to make choices in career, education, and all sorts of strategies in raising my two little bunnies. I had fun making mine—another important piece.  So if you chose to try it–to make the mission from your heart, your mind and your soul–make it fun. Make it you.

Erika’s Mission

Each morning brings HOPE
A hope that all people are inherently good
A hope for courage to live my dreams and act in truth:
To stand up for my Beliefs
     To listen without Judgment
To love, laugh and surround myself with those I love
Affirm my faith in God and my family everyday
I am who I am by choice, value, and strong character
And I shall never be anything I am not.

Just a Little Sparkle

I have this problem: an unwavering belief in our one gift—something that makes us stand out from the guy or the girl where ever you are. Doesn’t matter if it’s the person at the next cube over, your best friend, or the guy in the car stuck in traffic at your side. There has to be one good thing that makes us different.

So I guess all I’m asking is to take a moment and think about what you love about yourself. You don’t have to be a superstar, an all-star athlete or that employee of the month. Maybe it’s a simple thing, like how you can always find the best shade of lipstick or hum along perfectly to that song on the radio.

Set your timer. All it takes is two minutes.
