Where Have I Been?

rainbowA Word From Me…Or Maybe A Few More Than One
Today I’m beginning my thoughts with a wonderful poem by Maya Angelou. Here’s an excerpt I pulled from The Poetry Foundation.
Caged Bird
“A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.”

So Where Have I Been…

…in the clouds. Stretching my arms, my fingers full of feathers and tasting the wind. My apologies for not writing much since April last year. I hit a huge transition, a brick wall in my life and I had to spring over it free for a bit.
But now I’ve found that tree limb. I can see the ground beneath me. I can see the sky overhead right through the clumps of leaves in the trees, and I’m writing today to thank the other awesome birds in my life who stretched out their own feathered arms to me. They waited—until I could find mine again.
People come into your life at just the right time. Events follow as a result of meeting these wonderful bright eyed friends.  Sometimes it’s hard to see the purpose and embrace a new challenge. Sometimes your life becomes terribly unsettled and out of your control, but I’ve found comfort in my solid thought I’ve always clung desperately to: there’s always hope no matter how dark it seems. My purpose in writing today is completely selfish, I admit. I’m not talking about books. I’m not talking about writing. I’m talking about my life and how grateful I am for this moment, and above all things, my awesomely wonderful feathered friends.  My advice today? When life feels heavy don’t be afraid to take someone’s hand, maybe more than a few of them. Even if the world seems dark and you can’t quite grasp those fingers as tightly as you’d like to, let them take yours. Together you may find yourselves smiling just a little, crying, and maybe even the tickle of a soft laugh may escape your mouth. Gradually you will feel the wind right under your arms, together at first, and at some point you’ll take off on your own again.
My last thought?
“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Happy Friday all. Love your life as best as you can and don’t forget to thank all of your fellow birds in your life who help you. 🙂
