Mondays are not always my favorite day of the week, but sometimes it’s the day where you find yourself surprised by something wonderful.
It didn’t start out the best. I rolled out of bed, hitting the snooze button at least three times. I got ready, woke up my kiddos and we did the usual: Morning Disney cartoons, milk and getting dressed for school. My son hasn’t quite figured out which shoe goes on which foot all the time, but hey, sometimes I know exactly how he feels.
We shuffled off to school, and me to work, where I ate my oatmeal, drank my cup of coffee and made my to do lists.
My new boss was already hard at work at her desk and I have to say, I really think she’s awesome. I’m feeling more creative than ever, pushing around text, color and design on t-shirts, flyers and posters. Maybe it’s her attitude that is always so awesome–like she can handle anything, and she does it with a calm demeanor I really admire.
So later that day, I heard from a friend I work with. I’d given her daughter, a young aspiring writer, the first chapter in my book to look over and then I heard the news: her daughter loved it and said, “um mom, where’s the rest?”
Here’s the best part, she wanted to ask her communication arts teacher if she could read it for an in-class project. Talk about the best news ever.
I keep reminding myself baby steps, here Erika. Love what’s good and work harder. So after I did my little happy dance and a few cartwheels in the grass, I set some goals.
Goal 1: I will finish my book by the end of September. September 20th, to make it more successful.
Goal 2: I will test my full manuscript on a few readers who’ve offered to preview the content.
Goal 3: I will write the best query letter that I can. Something that grabs the attention and screams, read me!
So that’s my Monday. We’ll see how tomorrow goes. Maybe I won’t have to hit the snooze at all!
