How To Be Amazing

Looking amazing and feeling amazing are two separate but complimentary descriptions.

Maybe you woke up this morning, remembered that crazy 8:00 a.m. meeting, threw on your best pair of pants and shirt, jacket, and accented your look with a cool tie or a fun flashy purse. Maybe you’re the type who also likes a quick spray of scent. In any case, sometimes you look better than you really feel inside.
So how to match the outside with what’s underneath? Well, in a short whirlwind, here’s how I see it:
The first thing is to make your choice. Ask yourself, how do I want to feel today?
Get inspired. Play your favorite song. Talk to your favorite person. Do your thing in the moment that will bring back your balance. For me? I got the idea for this bit of writing because of a song I heard on the radio as I was skimming the stations. Bruno Mars. Your Amazing. If you haven’t heard it, give it a try. Yeah—yeah, I know. It’s a girl song. But heck, the words are awesome—the pure acceptance that no matter what you see when you look at yourself in the mirror, someone else finds you completely and totally flawless. You’re beautiful just the way you are
NEXT: When you’re faced with crappy moments, what do you tell yourself?

One day I was driving on the highway heading to work. A car rear ended me in bumper to bumper traffic.  At the time I was a corporate trainer and I had a class scheduled first thing on a monday morning: Crucial Confrontations. Talk about practical application! I could have done any number of things when I opened my door and got out of my car. I could have yelled, “Hey, what the hell man! Open your eyes!” Or, I could have taken at least ten deep breaths and said, “We all have bad days. Let’s just figure this out as quickly as we can.”

The difference? One assumes the other person meant to hurt you. The other assumes we’re all human here. We all screw up. And yes, I have instigated a fender bender or two and I know, it wasn’t because I meant to do it. I simply wasn’t paying attention any more than the guy right behind me on the highway, that very second.

So again, in that moment, what do you want? Watch for the the signals and be the person you want to be. Because eventually, the way you act will catch up with the way you feel, which is my last point for today.

LASTLY: Once you’ve decided what you want, act and do the things to get you there.

So what makes you feel good? I’d love to hear it.

  1. I needed these words more than EVER today, E!!! Oh my gosh I love this post!!!What makes me feel good is when my husband says silly things to make me laugh; to sing 90's throwback songs from my high school days; to be outside on the most perfect, non-humid day; to have a good hair day with my make-up done just right; to watch the boy be himself when he doesn't realize I'm watching him; to drive my "blessing" vehicle with the windows down and crank up a good song, singing it at the top of my lungs; to feel God's presence in the very moment I'm in and know He's with me… that's what makes me feel good.

  2. Thank you for being honest. It means a lot to me. I'm smiling just thinking of all these sweet things. I think the important piece in life is to always remember them and to count our blessings that all we have to do is look around us for inspiration. You are an inspiration to so many others!Hugs!
